German kitchens in Chicago

Chicago has some of the finest vintage apartment buildings in the country, and their kitchens were rarely built for how people cook today. We redesign them within the building's walls and rules.

How we work in Chicago

In vintage buildings we survey carefully, because walls are seldom straight and service runs are fixed. On the North Shore we plan larger family kitchens, often with a breakfast room and a mudroom.

Every kitchen is planned by Tischlermeister Daniel Helmut Pinger, manufactured in Germany and installed under a master carpenter's supervision. More about our work in the United States.

  • Building

    Vintage walls

Laser survey and scribe allowances for walls that are out of square.

  • Winter

    Dry interiors

Heated winter air is very dry; we choose woods and finishes that stay stable.

    Service elevators

Units are sized to the building's service elevator and back stairs.
